How PawPoint Works

When a lost pet is found, PawPoint provides a convenient place to check for a microchip. From there, a registry, local shelter, or animal control agency can assist with the next steps toward getting the pet home.

Follow the simple instructions to scan the pet using the included HERO microchip scanner.

If a microchip is detected, record the number displayed on the scanner.

IDENTIFY

Use the station's QR code to access the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool and identify the appropriate microchip registry.

LOOK IT UP

Building a public microchip scanning station yourself means sourcing the scanner, enclosure, security system, signage, hardware, and instructions—and figuring out how everything works together.

Who installs PawPoint?

PawPoint is designed to be shipped and installed locally. Installation guidance is included with every station.

How is the scanner secured?

The scanner is housed within the station and attached with a security tether designed to keep it accessible while discouraging removal.

What happens if something needs to be replaced?

Individual replacement components are available, so the entire station doesn't have to be replaced.

Does PawPoint include a warranty?

Yes. PawPoint includes a limited warranty on qualifying PawPoint-supplied components. The HERO scanner may also be covered by the manufacturer's applicable warranty.

Does PawPoint identify a pet's owner?

No. The scanner displays the pet's microchip number. The AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool can help identify which registry to contact for assistance.
